Sing from Your Core: Uniting Mind, Body and Spirit through Song

Tutor: Melissa James

Online via Zoom

Next date: Wednesday 11 November 2020, 7:00pm - 8:30pm - 6 week course to 16 December

If you, like Evolution, are struggling financially and would find it difficult to pay the concessionary rate, please do get in touch via email.  We would like to support people to stay positive during lockdown so will offer a few spaces at a supported rate.

Join singer, healer and facilitator Melissa James in six weekly Sing From Your Core sessions that invite you to become more aware of, and acquainted with, your voice.  In each of these online workshops, a selection of simple movements, breathing and vocal exercises will be combined with short meditations as we journey together in sound, offering you the opportunity to explore yourself through your voice.  We will engage with some more structured songs but be prepared to improvise and play with sounds.  Come ready to lie down in sections and consider wearing loose and comfortable clothing.

The purpose of these sessions is to encourage a deeper sense of vocal engagement and freedom, giving you more confidence in singing and using your voice while also helping you better connect with your body, relax, experience calm and let go.

About Melissa James

“Best current British blues singer I know…” – Tom Robinson, BBC 6Music

Melissa James is a Singer and a Performer.  In 2016 she created a charitable music and mental health initiative called SING4SANE(S4S) which sees her invite members of the public to join her in performing her song “Live Again” to connect those with an understanding of mental ill health.  A Big Sing recording of Live Again was subsequently made with all sale proceeds going to the mental health charity SANE.  SING4SANE has subsequently held a Big Sing in Parliament and Live Again is used as the soundtrack to Darkness Into Light in Brussels which is a fundraising campaign to support people affected by suicide.  In 2019, Melissa performed at Cambridge Folk Festival with festival goers singing “Live Again” with her during her main stage performance.
