Description of Class

Feel the Moment: Discover Beauty in the Ordinary This workshop, led by Chris Harrison, is an experiment – an invitation to step away from the usual way of seeing the world and explore new ways of noticing what naturally captures our attention, wherever we are. For a while, participants will set aside familiar photography techniques – not because they’re off-limits, but to break free from habit and aim to truly see. This workshop encourages a more intentional way of noticing. By slowing down and observing with fresh eyes, we’ll discover beauty in the ordinary and learn to capture moments with deeper awareness. A week before the workshop, there will be an online presentation where Chris will share thoughts and techniques on seeing in a fresh way. Participants will also receive a small homeplay (rather than homework!) exercise, designed to help them become more intrigued by the familiar. This workshop is about more than just collecting images; it’s about developing a deeper curiosity and a more instinctive feel for what draws us in. There’s no right or wrong way to see, and no expectations – just an opportunity to explore, experiment, and hopefully surprise yourself. Online pre-workshop presentation 6pm–8pm GMT, one week before the workshop (date TBC) The session will include a presentation of my approach to photography, a critique of participants' work, and the setting of homework assignments. Workshop day 10am–6pm 10am–11.30am: Meet and discuss the homework exercise 11.30am–4pm: Photowalk on the streets of Brighton 4pm–4.30pm: Participants download, edit, and make image selections 4.30pm–6pm: Participants present their work What you’ll need You’ll need a digital camera with memory cards and spare batteries, a laptop with software for editing your images, weather-appropriate clothing for walking and shooting outdoors, and an open mind with a willingness to experiment.
