“I have known Eva for nearly 10 years and have been a part of her teaching programme throughout. I have found Eva to be a challenging tutor - she really makes me think and stretches my capabilities. She doesn't give you the answers, she makes you get there yourself and this also instills a confidence within yourself. Eva is a very honest critique of peoples work and is quick to see an individual's potential and  gently steer them in a direction that is suitable for them. Eva also possesses an almighty knowledge of her subject matter. She diligently provides you with reference material relevant to the subject matter and provides well planned out and thought provoking lessons. A joy to work with.”  Jo Teasdale

“I joined Eva’s abstract classes 18months ago, not for photography as such but to get inspiration for my painting. I found her structure to the course, information on different types of styles very interesting. Our homework challenging but coming back each week to discuss our work with the group, excellent. Eva’s style of teaching is informative and inclusive and brings people together. Since the course I have purchased a new camera and decided on private lessons with Eva to learn how to use it. I am thoroughly enjoying the tuition, practice and taking proper photographs! I would recommend Eva to anyone interested in learning more about photography.” Karen Lewis

“I have worked with Eva since my first year in university and she has helped me both in essay writing and practical projects. She helped me structure my thoughts and ideas and write in a manner which was more suitable for university level. I would recommend Eva to any university student as she will improve your work but more importantly help you to be more confident with it.”

About The Tutor

Eva was born in Greece. After she was awarded a Greek State Foundation scholarship she moved to UK to complete a PhD in Arts and Communication at UCA. She is a qualified teacher holding a PGCE teaching certificate from the University of Brighton. She is currently based in Brighton working as a fine art photographer and photography tutor. In her artistic practice she is not using the photographic medium to produce a record and a document of the world, which is what we usually expect to see in a photograph. She is using it to question the nature of photography and to cause a tension in what we are looking at. She is playing between representation and abstraction. She was selected for the Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2008 exhibition among numerous solo and group shows.

Her teaching experience spans the last 10 years in both 1-1 and group sessions, online and live. She has been teaching at Evolution Arts since 2013 and she is responsible for developing and delivering various adult education courses at beginner and intermediate level including digital, street, portrait, abstract, night, landscape and smartphone photography.

In the past, she also worked for Phoenix Brighton in a similar role for five years running courses such as ‘Developing a Creative Photography Project’, ‘Building a Photography Portfolio’, ‘Curating a Photography Exhibition’ and ‘Abstraction, Photography and Play’, a course which has been the foundation for many of her students who attended her other courses and workshops as well.

She has also taught for WexPhotoVideo in London and she has been a visiting lecturer at the University of the Creative Arts and the Loxdale English Centre.

Throughout her teaching, she has been responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment for all her students and organising and curating student exhibitions, most of them as part of the Brighton PhotoFringe Festival.  Her private teaching varies in nature from providing study support to BA, MA and PhD students to supporting and mentoring adult  learners and children (12 minimum age) in group and 1-1 sessions that aim towards covering any needs they might have from learning how to use their camera to helping them to prepare for an exhibition.
