Life Writing: a three-month intensive

Tutor: Dorothy Max Prior
Taught live on Zoom + email feedback on writing assignments + personal tutorials

Course Dates: Tuesday 8 September - Tuesday 8 December 2020, 6-8pm

‘Autobiography’ – self, life, write…

Are you a writer (or would-be writer) interested in finding artistically satisfying ways to place yourself on the page? Do you want to start, or continue, to write a memoir, or a family history, or to tell stories inspired by true life experiences?

In this three-month intensive course, you will receive a thorough grounding in Life Writing.

In the first six weeks, we will look at good examples of memoir, autobiography, and autofiction, and at novel ways that writing autobiography can be approached (for example, through poetry, drama, graphic novels, alongside prose). We’ll employ creative writing exercises to develop your skills, aiming to explore different ways of reflecting on true-life stories.

The second part of the course will focus more specifically on developing and structuring your writing, and formulating the direction you’d like to move in, with continued weekly Zoom classes, plus feedback delivered through email and personal tutorials.

All very welcome, with any level of writing experience. Participating students need to commit to all elements of the course: the weekly Zoom class, putting aside a short time-slot every day to write, and delivering their agreed writing assignments.
