Critical Writing, Arts Journalism & Blogging

Tutor: Dorothy Max Prior
Location: Evolution Arts, 2 Sillwood Terrace, Brighton BN1 2LR
Next date: Saturday 12 October 2019

Interested in writing about the arts and popular culture? This is a practical one-day workshop for writers (or would-be writers) who are budding bloggers, arts journalists, or cultural commentators. We’ll explore questions such as: Who and what are reviews for? How can we give constructive rather than destructive criticism? What makes a good interview? How do we go about writing a magazine feature article, starting a blog, or setting up a podcast? We’ll explore examples of good critical writing and inventive arts journalism, and employ a number of practical exercises that will help to move participants’ journalism skills up a notch or two. All welcome, with any level of writing experience.

Tutor Dorothy Max Prior is editor of Total Theatre Magazine www.totaltheatre.org.uk and has written about theatre, performance and music for over 30 years. She is also an established theatre writer/dramaturg and director working across the UK, Europe and South America.
